Reading Connection
(T & Th until 2:00 p.m.)
“One of the best predictors of whether a child will function competently
in school and go on to contribute actively in an increasingly literate society is the level to which the child progresses in reading and writing.”

Kindergarten expectations are much higher today than ever before. Children are now encouraged to recognize their letters, know beginning sounds, recognize some basic sight words, comprehend what they have heard and begin basic writing skills.
We here at St. Simon & Jude Early Childhood Center recognize today's rising standards and changing educational dynamics and want to help “jump start” your child’s Reading and Writing abilities. We have developed a curriculum to help make this transition into Kindergarten a smooth one.
This program, Reading Connection, will enable the children to connect the sounds of the spoken word with the letters they represent in the written word. The children will build good phonological and phonemic awareness.
The program will provide an environment that is rich in opportunities to engage children in language and literacy experiences. The children will feel comfortable and confident in their growing abilities as early readers and writers.
